Insurance Plans

The world of insurance is an ever-changing one these days. Below is the list of plans with which we currently participate. We will update this page as the list changes. If your plan is not listed, please call us as we are always interested in talking to new insurers. It is also sometimes difficult to tell from your card who the insurer or administrator is; if you are unsure, call us or fax us your card and we will try to help. As always, if you have any questions, please call.

For the latest insurance plan updates, go to the Insurance Update Page.

Click any highlighted companies below to go to that insurer's web site.

Please note: At this time, the only Medicare+Choice (ie HMO) plan with which we participate is Aetna. We are Participating Providers with Traditional Medicare. Check back as this may change.

CIGNA / COMED / GreatWest All Commercial Plans (Not Medicare)
New Jersey Blue Cross
Horizon Blue Cross
After closing to these plans in May 2002 as a result of sudden and drastic reductions in their fee schedule, we have finally been able to obtain an adequate contract with them and are back in network as of 1/15/2011. We welcome back all former patients who have Horizon insurance.

MultiPlan / PHCS All commercial plans -- Effective 1/1/2007
It appears that MultiPlan has acquired or merged with PHCS. We are now participating providers in most of PHCS as well. However, we urge you to check with your plan specifically, as they at times claim that we are not in-network and drop the bill to the patient.
One Health Plan / New England Financial All Commercial Plans.
Princeton Theological Seminary We are participating with the Princeton Theological Seminary employee and student plan.
QualCare All commercial plans -- Effective 12/1/2006

Referrals

One of the most difficult aspects of today's healthcare environment is the managed care referral. Most of the common problems which our patients face can be handled in our office. However, when medically necessary, we refer our patients to specialists in the local community or at more distant tertiery care centers, such as The University of Pennsylvania Hospital and Medical School or Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

If you are requesting a referral, please call the office (609-443-1150), select option 2 and leave the details of your request, or use the on-line referral request forms on this site. We request that you give us at least two working days notice before you need the referral, especially for plans where there is a paper document which you must pick up. Under normal circumstances we will not mail referrals. We have had too much trouble with them not arriving in time. So we must ask that you collect the forms yourself and bring them with you to the specialist. [Obviously this does not apply to the growing number of plans which utilize an electronic referral mechanism.]

Click here if you would like to use thepublic or secure on-line referral request form.

Two other points. We are trained to care for the majority of problems which affect our patients. We will not hesitate to refer you to a specialist when that is the medically correct thing to do. However, in keeping with the rules and philosophy of managed care, we can not refer you for care which we are able to provide. If you have specific concerns, please feel free to discuss them with any of our physicians or with our staff.

And please don't call for referrals for care already received elsewhere, especially if we could have provided that care (see above). We will not do backdated referrals for care which we could have provided.
